I think we've seen that one before. I recall thinking that the price was reasonable IF it had a properly running engine. Appraised value of $82K.

That van was posted a couple months ago. Price is pretty crazy for needing a new motor.

Re: Nice but read through the ad: 2006 SMB 4x4 tricked out

Saw the $60k and thought, not bad, other than it has a 6.0. Nicely outfitted. Then "oh by the way".

If mgmetalworks would do a Cummins/Allison swap for $18k and the guy would sell for $42k +/-, now, I have some interest!

Of course, rear most sink placement is a bit awkward, imho. THAT would also have to be redone.

Back to my regularly scheduled programming

A van with the TorqueShift wouldn't even need an Allison. It already has a stronger transmission! Plus being a diesel means the fuel system can be used for a Cummins. And, being an '06 mans a 24-valve Commonrail 5.9L can be dropped in and be fully emissions compliant without the complexity of the 6.7L.

All sounds cool (and Greek to me). Who can do that right (mgmetalworks?) and how much?

Guessing: Complete remfctrd common rail engine around $6k? Install with adapting of Ford components to the long block $6K misc parts/contingency $3K. Tranny rebuild/refresh since 128K miles and everything else is new -$3K, so still in the $18k range?

LOL! Okay, I need to stop. Did a Google search and this cummins/e-series subject has been explored in depth. parts are out there but.. not so straight forward. Even saw the threads on this forum from back in 2011. Preety cool how these topics pop up again, and again.

Re: Nice but read through the ad: 2006 SMB 4x4 tricked out

Dang, I got really excited there for a second. Such a great deal! Duh! No wonder. The darn thing needs a new motor.

I once was on a commercial airline flight to Boston. The captain came on and said we were diverting to Detroit because of "minor engine problems." While I was getting off the plane I looked back and saw that one of the two engines of the plane was missing. It had fallen off. It was found later in a corn field in Iowa. I guess "minor" engine problems is when one engine falls off; "major" engine problems is when both engines fall off.

No working engine for this Sportsmobile. No problem!.
