That's interesting, Quigley using almost Ford parts in that years.
So this is not a show stopper.

@Philipp I know you have a gaser, what do you think about the motor going on our german Autobahn? What is your average speed going on the freeway?

To make thinks clear, I do not need to go fast. But since I live in Berlin I have allways a long way on the Autobahn to get to the "relaxed" roads. And going a bit faster makes the long way a bit shorter .

The shipping of an - any better - US located car is obviously the better deal. But that is a long, expensive and stressful way to go.
And there are even not many offered.

Well. Mine is quite above 3.5 t. So for an RV 100 km/h is speed limit. I regularly Go 120 km/h.

The Van would do 140 km/h and more. No Problem.

Import is quite a hassle. Right. I posted a report.

If the van has not too much rust i would take him. I would be so glad if i could find such a beast when i was looking for one.
All registration done and TÜV, so that alone is 5000 worth if you are not able to do it yourselfe

I agree a bit ;-)
But take into account :
- diesel is getting more an more a problem in good old Germany
- more important the very high millage, about 225k miles
- the maintenance records are not available so the history here is quite unclear
- the age
- the older IDI 7.3 which does not provide so much power as the 5.4 or the Powerstroke
- rear drum brakes - I don't like them
- no pop-top

Are U sure about 5000,- for TÜV?
I assume about 2000,- EUR for rebuilding and $21 Abnahme and registration.
You may be added the TAX and customs (10%+19%)?

With registration i mean TÜV, Paperwork (Datenblatt) and labour to get the van changed to german laws (lights front and rear, Exhaust, papers for special things like Suspension, rims, bumbers ......
If you let do it from an garage i think 5000 EU ist gone for it easy!
I got some offers from companies shipping it and rework it so that was the amount they took for the TÜV.
At least i made it for myselve but it was quite a bit work and the need of lights in front and rear (yellow flashers, and "E" prooft headlights)
flashers working with breaklights are forbitten nowerdays in germany, so you have to change the wiring. Took a while to find it out how it has to be done ;-)

What about the drum brakes?
It's that age that does have em. I guess Ford changed to discs later in 1999?
Would you mind thats an issue somehow?

My 98 2WD SMB at 8500 pounds has drum brakes. Never a problem. In fact, the shoes seem to last forever!
