So what was the change in late model year 99 (specifically in the pickups)?

Re: Red 1998 SMB 4x4

I believe the '99 - 2003 in the pickups got intercoolers.

Correct. Also a different turbo and the transmission was upgraded to the 4R100 (these changes apply to the van too). But if the E4OD has been rebuilt since that year, it probably got the 4R100 upgrades. If it has not been rebuilt.... I'd suggest budgeting for a rebuild or reman unit.

Re: Red 1998 SMB 4x4

This still appears to be on the market - Buck, did you get any additional information on the 4x4 install or photos? Any red flags?

The home brew 4x4 non ujoint conversion has me a little concerned in terms of flipping this van. I was planning to head over tomorrow and have a closer look, I'll keep ya posted

I do agree that the 6.0 being advertised seems to be a decent deal but in terms of advantages I see none. I would take an older, higher milage 7.3 over any 6.0 but that's my personal opinion.

More power and a better transmission.
