Too good to be true or perhaps perfect for the budget buyer
http://albuquerque.craigslist.org/cto/4290661013.html
No affiliation etc. etc. Somebody orter jump on this, for the pop top and the seats alone. Just a few miles from me but I am not going to be around to look at it.

I might hop on this ASAP. Do ya'll think that the pop top could be retro fitted to a 2002 E350? If not, I still might do it out of principle

Re: Too good to be true or perhaps perfect for the budget bu
I live very nearby (20 minutes away) and if any seriously interested members on the forum wants me to go and take more pictures and ask questions, let me know. I'm more than happy to help a SMB brother out, but please don't send me down there if you are just a Lookie Lou.
Giving me a list of Q's and what you specifically would like pictures of would be great, provided the seller will cooperate with me. I'm a nice guy, but we don't know how the seller will react.
It doesn't sound like it's had the best of care, considering the description and price.

Re: Too good to be true or perhaps perfect for the budget bu
Actually sounds like a reasonable deal to me.
The van is only worth scrap value having a stripped interior and 6-cyl and transmission which are both in questionable shape. I haven't checked steel prices in a while, but I'd guess probably around $500 for the van. What's a 20-year old pop-top worth, especially when you factor in the removal labor, and any problems that may come with a top that probably hasn't been used on a long time?

Re: Too good to be true or perhaps perfect for the budget bu
Okay, I would be interested in this but solely for a number of parts, I would simply scrap out the rest of the van to the local scrap/salvage yard.
Parts I would be interested in:
Pop top complete
Tilt out windows
Swivel seat bases
Aux Battery mount if frame mounted / rest of house electric system if anything is left.
Maybe Tires
Cannot think of much else I would need or that would still be on the van.
Question for someone knowledgeable before having someone check this out on my behalf is what would it REALISTICALLY cost to install this in my EB 2003 E350? I would assume the lift mechanism is manual but all operational from the pictures.
So cutting roof, modifying rear A/C, redo of ceiling headliner, new rubber gaskets? What can be expected re: condition of the canvas part of the pop top? What else am I missing? Then there is transport to San Francisco of course.
Appreciate any feedback. Thanks!
Ray

Re: Too good to be true or perhaps perfect for the budget bu
I agree with CarringB. Who has seen the inside of many Ford cargo vans (that have been used for long as such)?
I bet there's a reason there are no interior pics. Still probably a great deal for the pop top but if something sounds too good to be true........................
Good luck someone

Email sent asking for more info.
I like the idea of this, I would have the whole van trucked here and do the swaps with the two vans together, better than disassembling there and loosing the critical little piece.

I like where this is going...salvage an old SMB pop top and put it to good use!
