I trust that a class prerequisite does not include agreeing to inflict bodily damage to the vehicle. Mr. Burke's website states that safety is of fundamental importance and that he gears his instruction to individuals' skills and experience. Would hate to have to seek out a privacy bush out in Anza Borrego on short notice!

Hey all... I got this response from Ron who asked me to post it on the forum...

"I trust that a class prerequisite does not include agreeing to inflict bodily damage to the vehicle. Mr. Burke's website states that safety is of fundamental importance and that he gears his instruction to individuals' skills and experience. Would hate to have to seek out a privacy bush out in Anza Borrego on short notice!"

Here's my reply:
I can assure everyone that safety will be the utmost priority and Bill will not lead you on or allow you to traverse any trail that represents a threat of damage or injury. When I took the class, I was the only van (the rest were Jeeps and LRs) and there were always bailouts or bypasses around. I only took one bailout as Bill suggested. It's looking like there are mostly vans so it will make this event especially relevant for us. And Bill is well acquainted with the quirks and capabilities of them. Hope that puts some minds at ease. Oh, if you have a CB onboard or handheld CB bring it along for some good comm and chatter. Also, if you indicated you are interested and haven't received an email confirmation from me, please send me an email.

I've been on a number of trips with Bill (one 5 day trip, three 2 day trips). Always a great time, and he will push you to try things you wouldn't try on your own, but always with safety in mind. It will be far more scary in your own mind than it will be in reality.

I've seen one factory air dam torn (never a good idea to wheel with low hanging, frivolous body parts) and I've seen one very slow speed flop-over. Calling it a roll-over would be a serious overstatement. The driver took a very bad line (shallow angle of attack) coming out of a stream-bed crossing and flopped over. There was some minor body damage, and one window broken.

His trips are well worth it.
