Re: '08 5.4 transmission fluid leak

Double check your owners manual for proper ATF designation but I do believe Mercon V is the only acceptable fluid for that year.

Brand wise choose a good quality----I actually found Motorcraft at my dealer for just about $2 less per quart than anywhere else I checked----I was stunned and of course pleasantly surprised.

Castrol would also be a good choice if its available in Germany.

Re: '08 5.4 transmission fluid leak

Thank You.

I chose this one

http://www.ravenol.de/produkte/verwe...-mercon-v.html

Which seems to be approved by Ford

http://www.ravenol.ge/index.php?lang=en&id=26

For the moment it is just to refill some liters before the problrm is fixed.

Re: '08 5.4 transmission fluid leak

I surprised you lost enough through that leak to show on the dipstick.

Also just to be sure; you are checking the level with the engine running in Park, but after shifting through each gear for about 10 seconds?

Re: '08 5.4 transmission fluid leak

Well. Probably it is leaking since I changed the radiator in SLC in december 2014. Then conversion took place and the shipping to germany.

Yes. Checked it with engine warm and running. Going through gears. Just not for 10s ...!?

Only needed to hold it in each gear if you just started it up and its cold. If its warm, then it doesn't really matter, since each fluid path pressurizes immediately when its warm.
