Re: 2003, 7.3 L, Best Diesel Fuel Additive

The goal is counter this low sulfur fuel that lack lubricant a motor needs.

Amsoil injector clean, Cetane boost, cold flow improvement and best of all 4 oz or 8 oz atf transmission oil (fresh of course). The latter made my motor happy. Eliminating egr, kitty and open up the Exhaust pipe and air intake was nice too.

Try the transmission oil.

Re: 2003, 7.3 L, Best Diesel Fuel Additive

I use a cocktail mix of Diesel Kleen, Opti-Lube XPD, and Archoil AR6200.

I echo the other things Ketcham said but am curious about opening up the air intake. There doesn't seem to be too much aftermarket stuff available for the E series.

Re: 2003, 7.3 L, Best Diesel Fuel Additive

Zelstra will sell you the kit and it is very reasonable price. Super easy install. The filter I wash with soap and water. It is one of the main aftermarket companies for air intake. Pm if you need more information. I will look it up.

I will not argue about counter thoughts regarding performance. They could have a valid point. If it is proven for the f series then I am all about it.

There are no more e series vans made and I am glad to own the 6.0 which I believe has strengths compared to the newer models. The weaknesses are known, proven and addressed.

There are some amazing motors out of Europe with incredible fuel efficiency and reliability. Bmw and subaru. These motors are not available on the U.S. market.

Toyota has a neat fourwheel drive camping van available in Canada. Cheap compared to smb. Again not allowed in us.

Re: 2003, 7.3 L, Best Diesel Fuel Additive

Actually the stock air filter on the F series is pretty decent. Most of the hard core diesel guys don't really recommend up-grading it unless one is after big HP and doing other mods to the motor. The air intake on the E-series on the other hand seems forgotten and stuffed into the corner of the engine bay to ingest what air it can through the grill and headlight. Seems less than ideal.

And it's not that easy to change the filter and the "filter minder" is worse than an idiot light. This is what mine looked like after my first two or three oil changes at the stealership before I started doing my own changes.
