2005 SMB E350 rear diff question

I've got a little issue with the rear diff on my 2005 SMB 4X4. Not a full float, just the basic as it came from SMB West.

My mechanic found a bunch of metal shavings and nasty bits in the diff and would like to replace some things, but doesn't think it's the stock E350 diff.

Any thoughts, I did a search but couldn't find anything specific on the forum.

thanks..

Tom

You can run your VIN number through a VIN decoder like this one to determine what was stock. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/vindecoder.php

No matter what it came with, he needs to determine what you have in order to get the correct parts.

Why doesn't he think it's stock?

Time for a FF? It is a bit more to build out a full float, but it’ll be money well spent.

The only reason I can think of that your mechanic might not think it's stock is that if it's an SMB 4x4 conversion they move the lower shock mounts.
