2009 PSD engine failure on the road

I feel your pain Frostygirl. 4 breakdowns for us on this trip culminating in 3 days down for service. $800 later we have a new fuel pump. Ours is an old gas van. I fear you won't be so lucky with a 6.0 diesel but hope you will.

I've had this experience with a PSD in our sheriff's office truck. It was ok after I shut it off and waited. Never happened again.

E Series diesels and F450 and up usually have steel tanks. So it will happen to them. A disintegrated fuel pickup foot or trash clogged in the pickup foot screen could cause it to happen on the F250 and F350 diesels with the plastic tanks. And often all it takes is blowing compressed air backwards through the fuel pump line (with the filler cap off) to clear the trash out of the pickup foot. So ANZAC, that could explain why it happened on a plastic tank truck and was intermittent.

It's for this reason plus extra capacity that I got an Aero tank. At least a little more peace of mind and more miles per tank. I'd consider an after market tank if I were you, especially if you are doing some long hauling. The 6.0 has plenty of things to worry about, it's nice to be able to check something off the list.
