2WD Tire recommendations

I am in price negotiations on a 2001 Dodge SMB RB-50, it's based on a B2500 van... Anyway the inspection report says the tires need replacing... If you could have your pick of the tires on the market, which would you buy for it and why?

Michelin LTX AS is a very strong, durable tire. First choice for on road with some gravel roads.

For a little more dirt traction the AT version is preferred.

2WD Tire recommendations

My original tires were factory Hancook Dynapro, 245/75R16. About a week ago I got a blowout on the highway (driver side rear) where the belts on the tire gave out along the sidewall/tread junction.

Although I didn't experience a lack of control, the tires' steel belts did cause some damage (bad scratches) to my van before I could get safely off the road.

Today, I upgraded all 4 tires (I was just shy of 50k on the odometer anyway) to Michelin LTX M/S. From all the online reviews I've read, these are great tires, plus I had them in the 16.5" size on my last van and I had no complaints, other than their steep price ($160 each.)

I was glad I did the upgrade because when the tire guy changed them, he showed my how another tire was getting ready to fail. It was a little out of round and was contributing to my drive line vibration, which started about 1,500 miles ago and which we couldn't find a reason for (the tires were even rotated and balanced at that time.)

I took pictures of the failed Hankook tire with my cell phone and as soon as I figure out how to get them out of the phone, I'll include links here.

My next task is to go to a body shop and see if the scratches are all the way the way through the paint or if it will be a simple repair (HA! Never is!)

We did eventually go with the Michelin LTX AT 2. They're rugged and off-road looking but not so rugged that we'll rattle our fillings out on the highway...

Here's the pictures of my tire blowout.

This was a factory Hankook 245/75R16, run at 80 PSI, driver side rear.

After this, I replaced all 4 tires.
