Talking 30 days before replacement motor goes in....

Yup, I killed my 7.3 PSD.
Not exactly sure how but I'm down one cylinder, #8.
I've already purchased a motor!

Questions.
While the replacement motor is on the stand, what would you recommend doing?
Obviously within a reasonable amount. No daydreaming LOL.

Ok, real answer first then daydream

Thanks !

IMO the 7.3L engine doesn't need anything unless you're going high HP, and in a van, it's down on power since there's no intercooler compared to the F series so there's margin to add power without major mods.

I did add an aftermarket High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP) on my 7.3.

If you don't mind, tell me more about your pros and cons with the high pressure oil pump?

Is the replacement motor the same year as the one being replaced?

Regarding the HPOP, I wanted a hopeful increase in reliability, and I wanted the pump to be able to supply additional oil pressure if I ever decided to go with larger injectors.

BTW, here's the modern day equivalent of the Sears Christmas catalog (if you're old enough to remember that).

Ford - 99-03 Super Duty 7.3L - Riffraff Diesel Performance

It's a 2003 motor and I have a 2001.

I'd like very much to do a HPOP but that can be done later after the van is running. But what I've heard is that a stronger HPOP will quiet down the motor/injectors and increase mpg just on a stock motor. SO I've heard....

Now I keep asking people that are knowledgeable and they keep saying to stay with stock injectors due to the drastic increase in EGTs. And one owner with stage 1 injectors and a tuner told me that he can't tow any weight up med-large hills with out having with back off or downshift to raise the rpm.

Yes! Of course I'm old enough to remember the catalog.
I'll be checking it out once I hit submit.

Larger injectors with a 1.0 turbo with no inter cooler have a tough time cooling exhaust temps. If you have a good tuner a tune can be written to reduce fuel in the tow tune to keep temps lower but that takes away the reason you install larger injectors to begin with.
The 2003 should have 130 injectors where an upgrade would start with 160's so not much difference.
We had a 2003 E350 EB with just a tuner and no other mods would tow my 32' Donzi weighing 13k just fine in the tow tune. We fished in the SKA circuit and put over 150k miles on it over 6 years. We did not tow in the mountains so I can not comment on how it would perform there.

And I currently live in the mountains and I'm sure my rig is on the heavy side...

Stock, really stock? ... ugh.

I appreciate the info!

Well we took out the cat

Try Tony Wildman for your 7.3 tunes..totaldieselperformance.com

If not mistaken the stock injector flows 73 mm/cubed of fuel from a 130 so there is plenty of upgrade before running out of fuel from stock sticks.
