5.4 E250, IACV location?

A little help here.....

I've been getting an inconsistent idle now and then(often a little high) and a mechanic recommended I replace the IACV.

I have the new valve in hand, seems like a simple replacement.......if I knew where to find it.

I presume once I have the doghouse off it will be obvious?

Thanks for any help,

BB

What year? If you have a drive-by-wire throttle, you wont' have an IACV.

Brian, your '93 isn't the 5.4, it's the 5.8.
(Same engine my '95 has.)

The IAC is the "Idle Air Circuit" valve. It's accessed on the front of the motor (under the hood) --- once you remove the air-cleaner assembly it becomes more visible. (the IAC is bolted to the side of the throttle body, I believe.)

I replaced mine to help smooth out an increasingly erratic idle as well. (It did not fix it.) What finally cured my bad idle was replacing the EGR valve...and most importantly the EGR sensor. Keep those two items in mind! And good luck.

Let me know if you need any more help with your engine, I've spent a heap of time (and cuss words) getting mine to finally run right. If you're going to get in there and replace the IAC, you should also replace the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) as well.

5.8.....that's what I meant:-)

I'll let you know how it goes! Perhaps I'll grab a new TPS while I'm in there.

Rock on!
(Side note: I hope you're installing all MotorCraft FoMoCo parts!)

Some sketchy quality reported on a lot of the aftermarket knock-off replacement parts. Things like the TPS in particular rely on precision electrical resistance values to let the engine computer do its job properly....when chasing sensor-related idle issues, definitely not worth saving a few bucks on the parts. All Ford parts = if there's still an issue, it's most likely not the part you just replaced.

If you're having erratic throttle/idle performance, I'd make the TPS a "must do" as well as the IAC.
