5.4L V8

In searching for an empty Ford-E250 used cargo van I'm finding that most of them are smaller engines than the 5.4L that seems to be the minimum. If I look at a van visually, how can I confirm it is in fact a 5.4L? Does it say it somewhere on the engine? I wouldn't know just by sight alone...

Re: 5.4L V8

The only three engine choices are:

5.4L V8

6.8L V10

6.0L Diesel

The diesel is easy, the fuel gauge and filler should indicate diesel only.

If the van has a V10, usually the seller will highlight the optional engine.

Re: 5.4L V8

I could've sworn I saw some with a 4.6L or something like that...I'll have to double check, thanks.

Re: 5.4L V8

I had a 1990 E-250 Work Van with the 4.6 V6. Ran Great but slightly underpowered and Screaming with 4:11 gears and 265x16 tires.

Re: 5.4L V8

I thought the 4.6L was only available on the 150, but obviously I was wrong.

Double check a 250 van for GVWR. There is/was a light duty 250 with a GVWR of 7200# and a heavy duty 250 rated at 8600#. Why, I don't know.

The lighter duty 250 wouldn't allow for a normal SMB interior before it was overweight.

Re: 5.4L V8

FWIW
If you have an ad with a VIN number you can look in the WIKI site at the VIN decoder and decipher what the engine is.

http://wiki.sportsmobileforum.com/index.php?title=Ford

for a 2008 its the Letter in the 8th place of the VIN

W=4.6L SOHC V8 Gasser with 224-239 BHP

Re: 5.4L V8

Keep in mind that many sellers of vehicles do not know/understand what they have and will just guess anyway. I would recommend V10 or Diesel, once you build out you'll have a lot more weight than you may think, and some of the mountains get a might steep on Tuesdays...
