Same as DaveB, For me July 2004, brand new SMB driving up the Grapevine on a 90+ degree day. I had no idea there was an aux fan. I pulled into the one rest stop thinking the engine was ready to blow! A special place in hell to the engineer who synchronized the go petal position to fan rpm (and increased noise).

Well it’s not just really “synchronized”. It’s literally powered by the front of motor, and is bolted to the water pump. This ensures it gets enough airflow under extreme conditions.

Engines without a direct-drive fan are subject the de-powering due to cylinder head temps. The EcoBoost will do this as needed, since it only had electric fans.
