Consider doing the oil rails during this as well.

Well, just to kind of keep this up to date and let everyone that posted helpful comments know what's happening.

A month or so ago, I finally bit the bullet and switched over from dino oil to full synthetic. After a few hundred miles, the smoking stopped and this beast hasn't run this good in years!!

I don't know if this will be a permanent fix, but even though synthetic is really expensive, soes replacing the injectors.

Want to thank all the input guys, and here's hoping this will be the end of it.

scatter Are you also utilizing an oil additive (like Turbomaxx, Rev-X, Hot Shot, Archoil, etc)? Equally important is a Fuel additive with a Cetane boost ( like Stanbadyne, Amsoil, Hot shot, Howes, etc)? Both are highly recommended to maintain your engine & injectors.

Where did you get the wiring harness? Does Ford have them still still? Was it all the wiring for the engine in one harness?

Thanks!

Engine Harness for E Series 6.0 is all one harness. Massive beast.
From what I've read, the trucks are 2 harnesses.
I replaced mine with a brand new one from $800 or something like that. Probably cheaper than a cab off since I was in there already.

Yup, used most of the ones you mention over the years. I've settled on Archoil a few years ago for both the oil and fuel. It's been good to me, except for the recent #3 hassle.
It's also boosted my mileage! If I keep it below 65mph, I get 18mpg going across I-80 from Reno to Elko or 395 from Reno to Lone Pine. I don't understand it, but 18mpg in this beast? I'll take it. Course much less (15) on country roads and 13 crawling around in the dirt.

Except for the glow plug harness. Lots of brittle plastic connections on that as well.

My Diesel specialist shop did the work and found the harness. It wasn't easy. There are a few that appear identical, so use your VIN and a reputable source. NOT cheap!

Here's the part #'s for the wiring harness and glow plugs. At least on my 2005 6.0 but likely the same for a 2006.

I sourced mine here: https://parts.autonationfordwhitebea...y-6c2z12b637ua

Yep did the same but have used Amsoil since about 5K. Unfortunately I still lost an injector at around 25K. After the repair I started using cetane booster per the shops recommendation using Fords additive. At 90K I switched to Archoil oil additive which was a huge improvement and figured I just go ahead and use their fuel treatment as well. I also installed a coolant filter and upgraded the oil cooler to the newer stock cooler. But I still think one of the reasons I've been lucky (knock on wood) with my injectors is due to the coolant filter and the fact I change my coolant at least once every 2 years which I've done since I lost the injector. I also replace my oil at at least every 7K miles even though I'm running the Amsoil and the twin filter system. Price sucks but better than engine repairs especially if it strands me in the backcountry. Hope it all works out for you scatter
