Re: 6.0 PSD just dies

Make sure your oil isn't low. The 6.0L will cut off the fuel if it gets even a hiccup of low oil pressure...

Re: 6.0 PSD just dies

Dave,

Sounds like it could be a harness that has rubbed through and shorts out, but only on the right bump or whatever. Can be difficult to troubleshoot.

Good luck,

Mike

Re: 6.0 PSD just dies

Thanks guys. Never thought about the oil. I'll be hooking it up tonight to look for codes. The wierd thing is since the four shutdowns I never had a problem. I thought about the harness but it almost always shut down while barely moving or completely stopped. The Miami Trail is one rough run and I never had a problem on it until I came to a stop at camp where again I wasn't moving. At the opposite end of the coin, it occured once while moving with some throttle applied... didn't die just started to and then came back up.

Sure hate to have to take it to Ford. I'm hopeing for an engine code!

Re: 6.0 PSD just dies

NO CODES

Well I also found out that I can't program the speedometer for 315's. Oh well, we got it closer. We re-flashed it so maybe that will help.

I think I'll still let Ford check it out but I doubt they'll find anything. I'll just cross my fingers.

The last time I went to Yellowstone, I had a similar problem but it acted more like bad fuel. The dealership outside of Logan couldn't find anything either and it ran fine until last week.

Re: 6.0 PSD just dies

Hum, looks like a great place

Well I don't want to add fuel to the fire; I have enough crap going on right now.
Ford did their thing. Just like my buddy they re-flashed the computer, and no problems no codes. I had the EGR cooler/valve pulled and cleaned, did all the fuel filters plus a oil change that was coming anyway.

Yesterday the van died again... again at about 15mph with nothing on the throttle. Seemed like it coughed a couple of time on a hard throttle.

It still seems electrical but what would a failing fuel pump do?

I really don't want to start replacing things just because. That can get costly. I have a concern about the wire harness. I've had the separator open so I could make sure the batteries are OK. Starts fine. I'm also wondering about upgrading the computer. One of the mechanics swears by a company that does it but I don't want a power upgrade just a more solid platform...is there such a thing?
Yep Herb Sac is sounding better.

Re: 6.0 PSD just dies

Sorry to hear about your continuing troubles Dave. I sympathize, as I just went through two back-to-back issues myself on my 7.3L. One week it was the HPOP, then this week the CPS took a dump on me, at a busy intersection of course. Though I think it's just a fluke, and I think there's no reason not to trust it, between the issues, and a health issue with my wife, I'm likely going to pass on Overland Expo later this month. I'll probably just do a 3-4 day shakedown run much closer to home, in preparation of a 12 day trip with my son in June.

As for your computer, are you talking about the FICM? Here's the thread on that.
