6.0L Engine Noise

Just looking for any help regarding a new noise that just started coming from my 6.0l. It is a high pitched noise or whine, almost a whistle like sound. It begins with moderate application of the throttle pedal and if you let off the throttle it quits - and if you get aggressive on the throttle it also quits. It is quite noticeable with moderate application of the throttle at startup through around 50 mph where it either stops or just gets drowned out by other highway noises. The first time I heard it was this past weekend after coming down from some moderate off roading.

I know what the turbo normally sounds like as it spools up and this is different - though I suspect the turbo as the culprit, but I could be way off base - who knows, maybe the universal joint?

Any help appreciated and thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: 6.0L Engine Noise

Maybe a leak in the pressurized intake, either at one of the joints, or a small split in one of the rubber fittings???

Re: 6.0L Engine Noise

Sounds like a leak in one of the turbo boots/pipes.

A u joint will cause a vibration.

Re: 6.0L Engine Noise

I looked over all the turbo inlet hoses/pipe and couldn't find any leaks and the Ford diesel tech said they at first thought the same, but couldn't find anything.

Now he thinks it is an injector loosing pressure and I guess the van has to stay at Ford past the Labor Day holiday. Hard to believe it would take that long, but that is the latest.
