I have been running these for years. It's a Donaldson fleet filter for the international trucks. This is used in full size school buses, dump trucks etc. It adds about 2 quarts more oil (which is always good) Donaldson is a well know fleet supplier.
The only potential down side is the filter hangs below the oil pan about 1-1/2"
Never been a problem for us but if your a big off roader in mega rocks it might be a concern. They are 12" tall

I tried that Donaldson ELF7405 in my '01 7.3L Excursion, but as soon as I saw the dent that my tie rod put into the filter, I stopped using the filter.
That said, the suspension on Excursion sucks, so don't take my situation as a warning on anything other than an Excursion.

This would not be an option for me, whacking a rock or driving over any obstacle, however slim, you’d be running the risk of whacking that thing and dumping the entire contents of your oil, including the added 2 quarts, out on the trail, that would really suck!

Not one bit familiar with diesel engines this filter would fit but if its desirable could a remote filter adapter be installed somewhere in the engine bay keep it out of harms way?
