Maybe there is a 3.90, but it would be super rare and perhaps not match spline count needed or axle availability. Tire size can help w getting to a desired rpm vs speed range.
I'm actually at 3.55 right now. Was hoping to find a newer rear axle with 3.73's and upgrade my rear drums in the process. Rear axle is grumbling and groaning anyway so would kill 3 birds with one stone. Not sure if I want to go from 3.55 to 4.10 but also not sure how much I'd notice just going to 3.73. I'm running 265/75/16 tires so don't need a whole lot of gear. Also the van is a daily driver. One day a week is about a 50 mile round trip on the highway. My long term goals for the van may include stepping up to something like 275/65/18 tire/wheel combo. Don't want to go bigger than 33's but may have to go to bigger wheels to get better brakes so might go slightly bigger with the tires in the process. I also plan on traveling and pulling a motorcycle in a 5x8 enclosed single axle trailer from time to time.
Down side of re-gearing is having to re-gear the front axle. It needs some love as well so not a super big deal though. Might be more cost effective to step up to a D60 rather than rebuild, re-gear and upgrade the brakes on the current D44?
Which motor? If it’s not a diesel, 4.10 is a good ratio for that tire size. Really the only downside of 4.10 is if you want to upgrade to a Dana 60 front axle in the future, it’s not a factory ratio on the super duty. They are pretty much 3.73 or 4.30. Or even taller on the newer axles.
I do definitely think the Dana 60 is a better way to upgrade your stopping power. There’s not much you can do with the D44.
The only problem with going to a 60 in the front is that I would have to change everything all it once. The front axle is already set up pretty well so hate to have to start over. Although I'm having a hard time finding a 2004 - 2006 E150 rear axle assembly. Would be much easier to find a hewer one
