AC Compressor Experience
Returned yesterday from my first camping trip - just a quick overnighter with my 2y/o daughter as a tester for future family camping trips. This camping trip was followed by my one day race event up in CT. The co-driver of the track car and I camped up in CT near Lime Rock Park the night before our event.
ANYWAY, I'm happy to report that the van did a great job on both trips, the first of which was towing 5000lbs to and from the track. However, less than 2 miles from my house as we left Wednesday night to head up to the race track, the serp belt started squealing followed by a burnt rubber smell. I immediately killed the A/C which cured all the symptoms. Turns out either the clutch/pulley & compressor are toast, or maybe just the clutch/pulley?
Anyone have any experience with these units? Is there a good way to diagnose these? While at the track I started the van's engine, then turned on the A/C. You could see the pulley trying to turn once the clutch engaged and did eventually turn, but it was dragging and of course heating up the belt.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
