There are no requirements for changing the rearend in order to get 4x4 in a van.
It's all about getting a front axle in and working.

The reason the Sterling axle is a popular rear upgrade for 4x4 vans, is starting in 2005 Quigley and QuadVan (and all U-joint conversions) started using the 8x170 bolt pattern front axle. The Sterling rear axle is also 8x170mm, so it eliminates the need for adapters to match bolt patterns.

Agreed, you need an wheel adapter if you go with a FF from a van. I've swapped in full floats into two of my vans now.

One year later bump...

I'm going to snag an axle next week so that if I get suck at home I can work on the van.

I found an axle on car-part that supposedly is from a 2007 superduty pickup, 3.73, with a locker. They added this note though:

"45"SP-SP,60"BP-BP" Do those measurement jive with a truck axle, not a C&C axle? It strikes me as odd that they put those measurements in there.

After having a guy show up from car-part with supposed full float axle and I had to explain to him that he in fact had a semi-float....my trust in part accuracy on there is only about 60%.

I think that is a pickup axle. My notes say 41.56" spring center for cab chassis, 45" for pickups.
