Another trans cooler thread

Hi there,
I've read through a couple of the upgraded transmission cooler threads but have not seen a 6.0 truck cooler in a van. Has anybody actually done it, does it fit?
I bought one of these coolers and didn't realize how big it was.
It measures 24" x 14", Ford part # 5C3Z-7A089-CA.
I believe that I can get it fabbed in and have a clean finish but wondering about the size and if it will adversely affect the other coolers.
As I have it planned, the bottom of the trans cooler will be about flush with the AC condenser, it will completely cover the condenser and sit about 2" above the bottom of the grill.
Will this affect ability of the AC condenser and radiator, etc to work properly?
If anybody has done this I would appreciate their feedback and pics.

To my knowledge nobody on this forum has been able to fit a cooler from the F series into an E series with the 6.0. As I recall there were two sizes and the smaller one will fit in a van with the 7.3. And the reason Tru-Cool came out with the 40k cooler was for the 7.3 trucks.


Not sure any of that helps but to be honest not sure a cooler that big is needed. With the tru-cool I barely get my tranny temp hot enough to open the thermostat.

I "think" there are a few threads over on FTE about installing the 6.0 trans cooler in a 7.3 vehicle although I'm not sure if those swaps include the E-Series. A check of that site using Mark K's user name should reveal a ton of useful information.

I have it figured out as far as fitment goes just not sure it's a good idea because it would completely cover up the AC condenser and a good portion of the radiator. Also quite a bit of trimming and fab. And like you said, not sure its really needed. Thank you!

I have a Chevy Express that I tow a 22 foot travel trailer with. My friend owned a transmission shop (now retired) and installed an aftermarket external trans cooler on a custom bracket attacked to the AC condenser. He also installed a Summit Racing deep sump aluminum finned trans pan with a transmission temperature gauge.


Towing on the hottest So Cal summer days uphill on the grapevine it never gets above 180 degrees. The motor nudges 210 degrees on that hill but lowers to 180 when road gets flat. The AC never skips a beat.

I own a 2000 E350 7.3 diesel 4x4 van and a 2002 F250 7.3 diesel 4x4. I was having transmission overheating issues when towing heavy trailers on grades with the F250. I installed a Mishimoto model MMTC-F2D-99SL in the F250. It was a direct bolt in and solved the overheating problems. I then installed exactly the same Mishimoto in my E350. I had to slightly move the radiator and ac condenser. I had to fabricate brackets to hold the Mishimoto in the van. I plan to tow with the E350 and the original transmission cooler is extremely inadequate.

I just installed the Tru-Cool 4739-1 in mine last night. It wasn't too bad. I did have to cut one set of the old mounting tabs off and modify the bend of the hood latch. Hopefully it will do much better. I had been seeing up to 200 no load in traffic and my highest was 216 up the mountain towing my 7k travel trailer.

what did you do for the connections? Did you have to make custom fittings to accomodate the 3/8 to 1/2?

The kit came with the Ford fitting. It was an $8 option to the order.
