Any calibrations for smog or altitude?

Just wondering if the gov't regulations in the different states are important in deciding in what state to buy a new or used vehicle? Also do the engines need any adjustments for altitude? Are these considerations applicable to both diesel and gasoline engines? I am planning to purchase in the next few months and any advice in this regard is appreciated. Stosh

It might be important to know what state you want to register in.

My van came from Indiana, but I'm in California and needed it built to CA standards. It had to be special ordered for that.

Many engines are built and certified to 50 state standards and are the same everywhere. Look into the vehicle/engine you want to buy and you may discover it is the same throughout the US.

If you buy used, you certainly need to pay attention. I have made mods that wouldn't be ok in CA.

They can all be un-done, but you would want to know that prior to going to smog check...
