Re: Be honest - diesel engine noise versus gas engine

I have it on very good authority that, at least thru the '09 Ford diesels, the only changes to the PSD for fuel requirements is the decal on the fuel door and the notation in the owner's manual. ULSD is not required.
You'll have to come up with another excuse not to go to Mexico kids.

Jage

How could I forget about the heat????
Diesel vans run hot.

I had the fan motor replaced last week, still runs hot.

215 degrees

225 degrees sometimes.

How does anybody tow anything?

Jeff

Re: Be honest - diesel engine noise versus gas engine

I still haven't had a problem with heat while pulling my SMB trailer Jeff. Something larger...don't know. The tranny gets a bit warm on steep grades, close to 220 but the engine doesn't overheat. I had the doghouse and floorboard area shielded and I will admit that it still gets slightly warm in the leg area but the engine has been W/I tolerance. Yet I would like some extra cooling like you put in as well as some extra heat plates around the exhaust. I've had zero turbo problems at 47K (Knock on wood) but I'm worried about the wire harness due to heat. But the rig has been in the shop for the last 2 weeks. EGR. They (Ford) replaced the valve which failed after 200 miles. Now they said the intake needs to be pulled off, the carbon cleaned out, & the EGR cooler replaced??? The only other problem I've had was the IPR ??? All warrantee work. I was told to run the fuel additive and I will in the future even if Espar says not to.

As far as noise, not a problem IMO as posted.

Re: Be honest - diesel engine noise versus gas engine

The great thing about hijacks is sometimes they are OK -
my questions were answered about the noise and heat, for that matter, and this thread was prolly ready to hijack!

I made my decision .... thx to this forum and me driving 2 diesels, one at SMB. Actually, I didn't think it was THAT loud ............... I ordered a 2010 E350 super duty RB with 4:10 LSD in Pueblo Gold to be drop shipped at SMB and ..................
V10 gas engine.
