Re: BEST REAR DIFFERENTIAL FOR 4x2 OR 4x4?

I just can't leave this thread alone...The limited slip lockers like a true trac do not lock when making turns, correct? I have had issues on dirt roads making turns on steep hills where my wheels start spinning and I end up not being able to get enough traction to make the turn and get up the hill. I need something that will keep both wheels spinning in his situation. On tight turns off pavement is the true trac still shifting power to the tire with the most traction or is it acting like an open differential? I'm thinking for situations like this a selectable locker would be better than the limited slips?

Re: BEST REAR DIFFERENTIAL FOR 4x2 OR 4x4?

It is now 2014. This discussion provides a lot of great information. Since I am going to upgrade to a full floater I would like to see who installed what and how the LSD/locker/etc worked. Also, I am looking for a D60 or D70 full floater that I can use under my 2003 SMB. I have called Santa Clara and a wrecker in Portland and am being told that diffs are getting hard to find. If anyone has a lead on a FF let me know. Thanks

Re: BEST REAR DIFFERENTIAL FOR 4x2 OR 4x4?

As far as I know, any E350 FF 60 or 70 from 2000-2007 will be a straight bolt in for your van, 2007+ should work too but I'm not sure how RSC equipped van axles differed. I tracked down quite a few using this site: http://www.car-part.com/ but I just didn't want to pay ~$800 (by the time I had it delivered or I picked it up) since I already have a FF and was just trying to gain rear disc brakes.

I ended up buying a 35 spline Detroit locker and had Dutchman make new 35 spline axle shafts to mate with it.

If anyone is upgrading their stock Ford LSD to a locker or whatever, shoot me a note if you want to sell the LSD parts. I'm interested in upgrading my non-LSD rear on my 98 E-250.
