Cast Aluminum Transmission Pan

Has anyone purchased and installed a cast Aluminum transmission pan?
I am looking at one (PML, Yourcovers.com) http://www.yourcovers.com/transpan_11049.php
It holds 4 quarts more fluid then the stock pan.
Last week I was coming home from The Bonneville Salt flats thru Nevada, outside temps were 95 degrees. Driving at 65 mph up a long hill my transmission temp. got up to 224 degrees.
I figure the extra large cast aluminum pan would be the easiest fix to bring down the temp.
If it doesn't bring it down enough, I will put in another transmission cooler with a fan.

Thanks
Woody

I almost got an Aluminum transmission pan for the sake of cooling but ended up getting a steel one. Friend of mine says if you do any 4x4ing, it'll crack versus bend.. I've the Tubulator DeRale Transmission Pan Cover. Has tubes where the air flow is supposed to cool it more.

Re: Cast Aluminum Transmission Pan

Woody, don't worry about 225 trans oil temps. That is well within limits of the trans fluid. I've had 240 temps in off road conditions and won't get concerned before 250. At 275 I would be concerned.

Re: Cast Aluminum Transmission Pan

A cast pan will have worse conductivity than OEM due to thickness, and thermal properties of AL vs Steel.

Easiest way to bring down temps is a larger transmission cooler. Just stick with stacked plate or Fin-and-plate. Do not put a tube-fin cooler on your van.
