Code Reader/Programer

I'm looking for a code reader/programmer for my 2008 diesel e350. I would like to be able to get the error codes, reset engine light after servicing, and program it for larger tire size. Any recommendations?

Re: Code Reader/Programer

this is the one i see most of the guys here using: http://www.scangauge.com/products/scangaugeii/

once you get it, you load these custom settings: http://www.scangauge.com/support/x-gaug ... c-xgauges/

i remember another member posting up a link where you could buy the sgII and have it preloaded up with the x-gauges for your rig, but i cant remember where that was. hopefully someone else will know and share that info.

Re: Code Reader/Programer

The ScanGauge can do most of what you want, but not programming for tire size.

You may need to get something like AutoEnginuity to do that.

https://www.autoenginuity.com/products/scan-tool.html

You need a laptop to run the AE software.

Re: Code Reader/Programer

If you're also looking for a performance/tow tune, I believe most of the tuning programmers can read and clear codes as well as adjust tire size for speedometers. I'm not familiar with 6.0 PDS tuners, so someone else will have to chime in about which one is preferred.

Re: Code Reader/Programer

With my Scangauge I just program the real speed (I actually think I cheated on the math with gear ratio and tire size and just used a GPS...) and show it as one of the gauges.

I seem to recall I used a chip programmer once to mess with the speedo, and it worked, but the odometer worked differently. Overall it was more of a pain than just using the Scangauge itself. I even tried using my phone, but still prefer the simplicity of the Scangauge.

Other than programming for tire size, any $20 OBDII scanner will get error codes and reset MIL light.

Widely available on amazon or newegg.......and cheap. I have a cheap one in each vehicle......
