Anyone have feedback changing to the 7.3 clutch fan
In the 6.0?
I just bought a new water pump thermostat radiator and 7.3 clutch fan for my rig and would like feedback.
Radiator is from performance radiator.
BP referred them to me when I bought the fan clutch.

Thoughts?

The 7.3 fan clutch doesn’t provide any more cooling. It’s just generally goes longer between failures. Downside is there’s no electronic activation, so ac performance at idle will be worse.

I did the swap on my 2009. I removed it and replaced with the stock 6.0L fan clutch. The 7.3 clutch was engaged way too much, like 75% of the time and there's no in between, either full on or not at all.
Apparently the OBS 7.3 Ford/Motorcraft clutch was the one to switch to but Ford has discontinued it leaving only the option of the obnoxiously loud and too often engaged one from most auto parts stores.

I installed the mod with the BP Diesel adapter, it took two sets to get the fan to work right. The first fan was clutching in too often and for too long - tremendous drag and noisy... The second has been perfect, clutches in when oil temp hits 205' or so and drops out when temps drop to the 195' range in a minute or two. I think the viscous fans need to be stored in a certain orientation so that the silicone fluid doesn't either collect or run out, I don't recall which as I had that conversation with BPD prior to having them send me a second clutch adapter. All good for the last 4-5 years. 2007, E350 RB50, 6.0 with several but not all mods.

On my 2008 i also swapped to the older (1997?) 7.3 fan. Bought the Hayden one from Amazon.

Impressions? It does its job at cooling the engine, almost too much! It's much louder as it regularly comes on but my temp are in check. Dont think ive seen my engine oil ever going 220 while going up BC passes at 16k lbs total rig and trailer.

But its almost annoyingly loud, even from get go under accelerations.

The fan on my 2001 7.3 ambo wasn't even close to being that loud, maybe because the 7.3 was so loud to start with, lol

That was my experience with the Hayden unit. Enough to go through the pain of removing it and going back to a stock 6.0L clutch.

I did however notice a 6 degree drop in ECT's with my newly added fender vents and scoop under the Aluminess. I have a 6 mile 2500ft climb to my house that I've been able to do test runs at consistent 94 degree ambient temps.

Wow, your van looks like it just came out of the factory line, so clean! Vent and scope look good!

Thought about doing the side vents but plenty more to finish first. 6° out of 600° isn't much though, my guess is that it's more beneficial at lower speed?

Anyway, when I'm running my tuner the fan doesn't engage as much but when I return to stock it follows the rpm curve so it gets really loud when the truck downshift or under harder accelerations.

A 6 degree drop in ECT (Engine Coolant Temp) so it's not a 600 degree range. Coming up the hill I was getting 226 degrees ECT and it dropped to 220 at its peak.

Get a tune from one of the companies that tunes 6.0's in vans. They can program your 6.0 fan to activate at a lower temp.
