Diesel Oil

I'm curious what oil folks are running in their diesel engines.

Natural or Synthetic?

Are you using one of the oils that's designated as a diesel oil? (I'm told this formula is optimized for diesel ash residue.)

Also what's your oil change interval?

Those of you running the AMSoil system, do you think it's worth the price?

I'm running Delo diesel oil, changed at 7500 miles.

My van is never run less 20 miles when I start it, and usually more than 200 miles, so I don't feel bad about the 7500 miles - especially when IH uses 10,000 miles as a change interval on the same engine.

I'm running the Amsoil Synthetic put in after the 7500 mile break in period. I'm at 10,000 miles now, and haven't burned a drop of oil yet. But I need to check the change interval again for this stuff again; I know its pretty long.

Mobil 1 Diesel recommends oil change intervals of 10K. I'm just trying to decide if it's worth the extra $$$ to pay for the synthetic premium.

I run Amsoil in the engine and trans.

I bought my Mag Hytec trans pan from Ken Imler diesel in Sacramento. He's fairly well known in the diesel community, and does nothing but work on Chevy, Dodge and Ford diesels. I asked Ken what he recommended for the Amsoil engine oil change cycle. He recommended:

Change the Bypass filter every 3,000 miles, and add back in a fresh quart of Amsoil to make up for the amount trapped in the old filter.

On the third Bypass filter change (9,000 miles total), change both filters and all the oil.

Personnally, I think it's an overly cautious regimen, but I like the overall concept. My plan is Bypass filter changes at 5,000, and a full change at 15,000 miles. I really should be sampling the oil and sending it in for oil analysis to Blackstone or some other service, so I can make a more informed decision, so we'll see if I get that inspired.

Hi Everyone...I wanted to inform you on the filter change for the AMS Oil product. The filter part numbers are different than they were in past years. The correct part numbers are as follows...

Full flow filter = P553411

Bypass filter = Eabp-100

Oil = AME-01 15W-40.

I know there is still some old info floating around out there, so I was hoping to get everyone "up to speed".

Hey all: Herb, think you got which filter to change switched around. From the Amsoil site:

When used in conjunction with AMSOIL motor oil and an AMSOIL EaO [full flow filter] or Donaldson Enduranceâ„¢ filter, the EaBP Filter [bypass filter] should be changed every other full-flow filter change up to 60,000 miles. When used with other brands of motor oil or full-flow filters, the EaBP Filter [bypass filter] should be changed every other full-flow filter change. AMSOIL recommends using oil analysis when extending oil drain intervals.


Important as those bypass filters cost approx twice as much as the full flow fliters.

So I am at 6k miles and have the Amsoil system, but I am not able to get in touch with Jim mentioned above, and I am seeing conflicting instructions on what to do. For this first change I guess I am clear, change everything, but later it sounds like there are different possibilities.
