I'd sure like to see an official statement from FORD.

Wowser! Sure caught me by suprise on this. I too thot that all 6.0s were good to go on the old fuel. I just made it in by five weeks, which is good as I pumped a lot of Mexican diesel thru it in the past few months. Thanks for the clarification Jason.

ehhh... that don't look so good. I was under the impression that the van I picked up Friday didn't require it either, but I need to find out how to determine for sure.

I have a strong suspicion that the fax that Jason posted is not accurate. I aslo saw this on the web. However, it is not posted on any Ford or Powerstroke related site, just some unreliable, older sources.

I found the same thing here:
http://chrysler.desotoautomall.com/Ultr ... -Fuel.aspx

I think this is probably a more accurate description:
http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/52644 ... sel-2.html

It makes complete sense that they did not spend the time or considerable money to redesign the 6.0L to run on ULSD only since they are now manufacturing the 6.4L Powerstroke and phasing out the 6.0L Powerstroke. I have a post in a more "technical" forum for diesels, I'll let you know what I find out.

I agree....seems strange to retool an engine for a few months of production. Maybe all of the 6.0L engines were manufactured before 1/1/2007...is it the date of the engine built or the vehicle build? Isnt there maybe an indication on the window sticker or owner manual that would point out the need for then fuel?

I received those letters from John at SMB. Does anyone know somebody at Ford?

I think Ford stockpiled a few 6.0 engines, and both Ford and International used the old "emission credits" from low emission vehicles, to get by with the old design until they finish their redesign of the E-series to accomodate the 6.4L diesel.

Ford has their own internal diesel engine design in the works, but no one know if that's just a barganing tool to get concessions from International, or if they'll actually drop International in the 2010 timefrmae.

Here is a forum thread that reinforces that all 6.0L Powerstrokes (at least those being included in Fords to date) can run on either LSD or ULSD fuel.

I just received more info from John...

"These pictures should clear things up. Even though the build date is after the 1st of the year, just inside the fuel fill area it says that it will accept either the low or ultra low sulfur diesel."

Re: Diesels For Dummies

So: it's been a while since the preceding discussion--what is folks' experience in Mexico?
Can post-2007 Ford Diesel vans in fact run safely on the LSD (rather than ULSD)
still sold south of the border? (I'd like to hear from someone who has actually
tried this, before I next head south in my Diesel Sportsmobile!)
