You have a differential temp gauge? What are you using, an autometer oil temp set up in the A pillar? Got pics?

Rear axle breather puking ...
I had problems with oil coming out of the breather tube during long duration highway trips in my E350 4x4 (SMB conversion, using a full floating Dana 60 rear). The only 'problem', as far as I could tell, was the smelly oil blowing everywhere. Extending the breather hose didn't do anything. Putting on different jiggle caps or a K+N at the end of the breather hose didn't do anything (i.e., it still puked oil).
In the end, I found that is was ever so slightly overfilled, every time I swapped out the oil (I was just following the recommended quantity), so it would puke - at higher temps. I also switched to a Trail Gear Creeper Breather, which is an expandable yet closed axle breather system. They are not expensive. It doesn't let condensation out, but I have not seen water in the oil when drained.
I, too, look forward to the Banks data.

Yup. Autometer DIFF gauge, Banks Trans gauge, and AirLift air pressure gauge for the rear axle airbags.

I was poking around on Banks' YouTube page to see if there was any update to this and noticed folks asking about the the diff cover test in the comments of other videos. Found this response from Banks.
"It's an ongoing test that started when we posted Gale's video. The first week was spent validating our test procedure. Then it's taken about 3-4 days per diff cover to test. We should be posting an update later this week." Banks Power
Just spreading the word. Also, I have no affiliation with Banks Power. I met Gale once when I was a kid as he handed me my Dad's turbo that they rebuilt. Had to have been early 1980's sometime.
Anyway, We'll see what happens.

Story: When I was a kid my parents towed a sizable camping trailer with their Ford Crown Victoria. I can remember feeling the heat from the rear axle coming up through the back seat! The diff never gave them any trouble, although by 140,000 miles it was starting to whine a bit -- at that point we got rid of the car due to frame rust. The trans did need a rebuild, at about 90K, but that's not atypical for a Ford AOD in my experience.
(Towing a Class III trailer with a passenger car sounds a bit crazy now, but back in the day those cars were rated for 5,000 pounds with a towing package. They had a full frame and were as rugged as a typical pickup truck.)

Part 2 is up. Haven't had a chance to watch yet as I've started a new job which is putting life out of control for the moment. But i'll get there.

Thanks for the heads up.
Now really curious to see actual "end" results sometime mid September. Believe there is merit in that rhetorical expression "lipstick on a pig..."

Diesel data loggin'.
I can't wait to see the data. Surely, too much oil and hindering its flow can't be good.

Interestingly that Banks is not testing the factory finned cover used on the current Rams with the max tow package.

Part 3 is up. I need to catch up on these videos. Is it lame to start a discussion and then fall behind on the material? Adulting keeps getting in the way of my VanLife
