Engine fan noise

Did a search and found only one post regarding this. Anyone else have the engine fan stay on for an extended period of time after a long pull?
Mine stayed on for nearly a whole day of driving.Very loud! Even when outside temps were cold and going downhill etc. The only way it finally went off was when I floored it to get on I 70 and got to speeds of around 75mph.

I haven't had it stay on for that long, but I have had the same problem. Only once though and I don't know what caused it. Greggde had fits with his too. I'm sure he'll chip in.

As Scatter pointed out , I had many issues with my Clutch Fan coming on for no apparent reason . If you call me I will be happy to speak with you about this problem and the final remedy for this problem . 1 (800) 841-3312 24/7 Leave message if I do not pick up and I will get back to you ASAP

Like any other computer controlled piece of equipment, sometimes non-critcal functions lock up. Did you try turning off the ignition and restarting the van? Did that help or not?

I would suggest a ScanGauge (www.scangauge.com) to monitor actual temps. The factory 'gauge' has such dead band in the middle that it is more of an idiot light than a gauge. With the ScanGauge I can tell within a degree or two when the fan will come on or go off. Or, if there was a real temperature problem.

We have a ScanGuage II and we monitor coolant temp. Our fan seems to come on around 219 or 220 and you can typically seem an immediate result. It raily stays on long because the temp does not stay high.

If we had a long climb and were towing, or some similar situation, I could see the fan staying on because the temp might stay high. ....but I would not expect it to stay on when the temp went down. If it did, I would describe it as a problem and want to get it fixed.

From my ScanGauge, our fan starts to come on around 215. By 220-225 it is on full roar. And the temps drop very quickly also, and the fan slows down, but stays on slow for quite awhile. And there is a certain throttle setting (more throttle than I need to keep speed on the level highway) setting that will have the fan coming on full before the temp is above 215. I guess it is to prevent the temps from going too high under heavy throttle.

Could you have low fuel pressure, hence needing more throttle to get enough fuel into the cylinders? Either a low output fuel pump or a partially plugged fuel filter could do it.

Temps seem fine and the filters are new. We just got back from another trip and the stinkin' fan was on the whole four days. It's got to be a bad fan clutch.

I don't think it is a clutch type fan. It is an electrical fan controlled by the engine computer. And it should be sensitive to the water temps you see.

Maybe you could ask over on the dieselstop.com site for more technical assistance. There maybe a 2nd sensor involved.

I referred to this as a Clutch Fan on our 2007 because the Mechanic and the Service Writer kept calling it by this name , after all of the time spent and erratic behavior of this Fan I had several other names for it . It may well be a computer controlled electric fan , out of the four previous dealerships visited they called FINE , HMMM , or ODD .

Since day one my fan has been a problem. It is one reason I added hood vents and a 14 in electric
fan.(plus I got rid of that giant alum bumper.)The dealer says it's normal. I just live with it.
I plan to get a oil cooler next.
