Engine Mods for the V10 Ford what have you done

I have Mikes 5 Star tuner and it works great. Thinking about the AFE from reading this post.

Anyone know if adding the AFE will cause any issues with the existing tuner?

is the GCWR the tow rate????

for this 97 with 4:10 it has a tow rate of 10K

and yes i tow every weekend between a 16ft enclosed trailer with all our show stuff to a 28ft trailer loaded with 2 carts golf carts and gear when we go racing....

up to now i use my 2003 RAM 1500 4x4 Hemi to tow the 28ft trailer but i have owner the truck since new and rather not up grade to a bigger truck at this time....

i have use my 93 E350 with a 5.8 to tow my 16ft trailer it has 3.55 gears and doesnt relly like to tow the little trailer....

i really want and will find sooner or later a std van E350 with 7.3

but this 97 V10 will work for now...

the 97 van is a van converstion so but im not sure who did the build....

GCWR = combined weight (trailer + van) rating.

The published tow ratings are based on a single loading scenario, so GCWR really matters most.


I'm running effectively the same size tires: 265/70R17 up front and 235/80R17 and in the rear. They are the same height, but the 235s maintain adequate clearance between the duals and fall within spec for the rim width of the duals. I went to a single-rear-wheel front hub to run SRW front wheels to get an 8" rim for the 265s. Dually wheels are all 6" or 6.5" and when that's paired with 265s you get a little sidewall squirm.

12 most of the time, but only 10 when I'm commuting in town. Towing anywhere from 7.5-10 depending on the weight and profile of the trailer.

do i have to make a new hole and mount this senser on the AFe intake tube????

That is correct. My intake air temp sensor is in the manifold, so I did not have to worry about it. But I remembered the instructions covering the addition of that holes and where to put it.

I bought mine from Predator directly. I would actually recommend 5-Star tuning over predator. It's tailored for RV/Towing use out of the box. The Predator comes programmed to make you go faster, but I had to make all the transmission changes myself. It took quite a bit of trial and error to get things dialed in for towing. It works, but 5-star will work better with less fuss. I happened to get my Predator before 5-star came about.
