Re: Engine Mods for the V10 Ford what have you done

For those considering the best tuner for Ford's V10 here's but a sample of what 5 Star Tuning can provide: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/95...ky-thread.html As CarringB says 5 Star can be custom-tailored for the end user along with changes to any parameter after the initial sale easily made, the update sent via email for download into your SCT device.

I don't own a V10 so don't use the 5 Star product however the satisfied customer stories show this outfit to be far, far beyond service oriented, their desire being to keep the customer happy. Given the overwhelming endorsement by real users, the near complete lack of any unresolved issues or dissatisfied customers would make this my first choice.

Visiting the V10-specific forum above its easy to see 5 Star Tuning should be a strong consideration for anyone desiring this sort of programmer.

(BTW I have NO affiliation with 5 Star at all----not a paid endorser just a fan of the service! )

Not just V-10s. I bought one for my 5.4 and it helped a lot with no other mods (factory exhaust and only a free flowing air filter element).

Another satisfied 5-star customer.

I have the full Banks package which include the Banks muffler and tailpipe, plus long-tube headers.

The stock exhaust is also mandrel bent, but I think it's only 2.5" coming out of the muffler even though its 3" coming out of the cat.

Carringb

i have a few questions and you might have the answer or maybe some else will...

you have talked about the we have talked about the GVW and GVCW

and with the different rear gears tthat the GVCW can change....

does the 7.3 van non extended have a tow rate over 10k like maybe 12 or even 15K????

i am looking to buy a bigger trailer the gvw on the trailer is 15k so here in cali to legally pull it with the right tow vehical i need class A with non commerecal licesne...

the current van i have with the V10 has a 10k tow not the legal tow rig for the big trailer so i would not be able to use the van to take the driving test..

im looking for more info before i buy and the trailer... but most of the trailers that i can use and want to buy is going to be over 12k

Re: Engine Mods for the V10 Ford what have you done

Factory GCWR of the 7.3L with 4.10 gears is 20,000 pounds (or 16,000 with 3.55 gears). Keep in mind that the factory GCWR is just a performance and warranty rating. It has nothing to do with any legal requirements.

When DOT asks "what is your GCWR", the ONLY thing they want to know is your tow-rig's GVWR + Trailer(s) GVWR(s). So it doesn't matter if you use a V10 van or diesel van, as they have the same GVWR.

Do you mind me asking what you will be using the trailer for? You have to be careful at those trailer weights because you may accidentally fall into commercial use territory. I.e. if you receive sponsorship money for the vehicle you will be hauling, or if the events you enter have a cash prize, you actually fall into commercial use territory and will need a CDL if the trailer is over 10k and your DOT GCWR is over 26,000.
