Exhaust Recommendation for 5.4 V-8

Can anyone recommend a good exhaust system for my E350? Will this mod void the vehicle's warranty? Thanks.

It's so hard to find performance stuff for vans. I just went to the local muffler shop and had a Flowmaster imstalled. It sounds good and does not void any warranties.

Re: Exhaust Recommendation for 5.4 V-8

I've been jonesing for an aftermarket exhaust myself. As I understand it, however, if you free up the exhaust you lower back pressure and might get a little more H.P But you will loose Torque by lowering the backpressure. You want higher torque not higher H.P. on a truck. Another thing is that any H.P. gains made by messing with exhaust are made in the higher RPM range. On a truck you want your power on the lower end of the operating range.

Torque is how much work you can do and H.P. is how fast you can do that work. A tractor trailer moves 80,000# with only 450 H.P. but 1600# torque multiplied through gearing.

Personaly, I just want more noise. Which Flowmaster?

We put a MagnaFlow on my brother's Expedition, and it worked out very well. Definitely an improvement, especially for towing. I don't remember which model Magnaflow, but it was a cat-back system. It was too loud at first, but after a couple thousand miles and settled into a nice tone.

Me? I bought the 2 chamber 40 series with 2 1/2" in/out. I think I paid around $100 when it was all said and done! Great investment, now just waiting for a programmer?

Floorguy:

On a different thread you were wanting more power, was there a correlation between changing the muffler and feeling like it needed more power?

Also is it much louder than stock?

Thanks, Bob

Re: Exhaust Recommendation for 5.4 V-8

I do not know about your 09. My 01 uses the same exhaust manifolds as the Excursion and there are aftermarket manifolds for that. I am planing on using some on my van next summer. I might have to make the y-pipe and rest of the exhaust but that should be okay. I am contemplating a Supercharger kit from a Pickup as well...

I am converting a van with a 5.4 and trying to figure out is you I need to build a new y pipe to clear drive shaft and make room for the transfer case does any one know. Or have photos of that area please.
