External Transmission Filters
For any of you folks that have a Ford external transmission filter (Ford #FT-145) there's a gal on eBay that is selling them at half price. At least half of what I can find them for. These include the O-ring too. I've picked up six of them and they look good. Not in a box, but sealed in plastic. Seems that the printing on the filters was reversed and Ford can't sell 'em that way. I figure my trans fluid won't be able to tell the difference as it's dark in there....

Re: External Transmission Filters
Stupid question time.
Is changing the external transmission filter as easy as it looks? Unscrew it, take out the old filter, put in the new filter, remove old o-ring, use new o-ring, then screw the whole thing back in.
Thanks,
Ray

Where is it located? I don't recall seeing it.

Re: External Transmission Filters
My memory says it is in one of the lines going to the trans cooler.

Re: External Transmission Filters
It's on the left side of the transmission. Small aluminum canister with what looks like a nut cast on the bottom so you can use a socket for removal. Don't know what years have them. My '07 does, friends'08 doesn't. The white filter element is totally black when I change it every year.

Re: External Transmission Filters
Looks like the earlier rigs (mine is 2002) don't have them, Ford has a TSB to install a XC3Z7B155AA inline filter kit, made by Magnefine. Still doing research on this. It says for 4R100 but only listed under diesel at FordPartsGiant.
