I really wish they would share the hp/torque numbers. I haven't seen those anywhere.

Anyone seen them?

It seems like 'going backward to go forward', keeping it simple. Cam in block pushrod engine, gasoline, not even coil on plug, it has a short plug wire so they can keep the coil away from the heat. The article says it has variable valve timing, I wonder if they got cute like Chrysler's V10, and separated the exhaust from the intake lobes, and vary both independantly.

Can you imagine being a fleet manager for a mining or power generation company, and living through owning a fleet of 6.0 Diesel F250's? Maybe Ford is trying to recapture those commercial fleet customers with what sounds like a more basic, robust power plant?

The main reason for going pushrod is the lower operating RPMs, which helps them meet the CO2 regulations that apply to medium and heavy trucks. This is the same reason why the V10 in the F53 chassis and F450/550 were downrated in 2016. Once you start lowering your RPMs, overhead cam loses its efficiency advantage, while carrying a packaging disadvantage (which is why the E-series never got the 3-valve motors).

Another artificial:

The long-running E-Series cutaway will also get the 7.3-liter.

Looks nothing like the LIMA engines of yesteryear. I'm curious about the head/port design.
It'd be nice if the intake is tall and narrow like the old FE high risers and the exhaust is raised like modified Cleveland heads.
But that's just me.

So if the cutaways get this new engine does that mean a retrofit on a full bodied E-Series is on the horizon too?

Where's that MG Metalworks guy when we need him?

Packaging and simplicity. Things fleet managers love. Like back in the 90's when the police package Malibu was fitted with the 3.8 OHV V6 instead of the more powerful 3.3 OHC engine (this was after the RWD Caprice production ceased).

Personally, I wonder if/when this engine and 10 spd auto transmission will be available in crate form with a stand-alone ECM system. Could be a nice swap option for older trucks.
