I'm pretty sure the book says 4-hours for the job. I've also heard that dealer won't just replace the blend door, they replace the entire blower/blend door assembly. So that price sounds high, but not outrageous.
If I were you, I would get a parts quote from Tousley Ford, then shop independent mechanics to do the work.
BTW - I'm in the same boat right now. I plan on visiting a junkyard to find a decent cable-control knob, like from a minivan, and retrofit mine to be cable controlled, so I can actually control the rear temp, instead of either being all AC or all heat. I'm not sure yet if I will replace the blend door, or try to retrofit the arm to something stronger. I suspect I could machine an AL one, or make carbon fiber door, in an evening. Just need to find the time....
