Re: Ford E350 a/c

I'm pretty sure the book says 4-hours for the job. I've also heard that dealer won't just replace the blend door, they replace the entire blower/blend door assembly. So that price sounds high, but not outrageous.

If I were you, I would get a parts quote from Tousley Ford, then shop independent mechanics to do the work.

BTW - I'm in the same boat right now. I plan on visiting a junkyard to find a decent cable-control knob, like from a minivan, and retrofit mine to be cable controlled, so I can actually control the rear temp, instead of either being all AC or all heat. I'm not sure yet if I will replace the blend door, or try to retrofit the arm to something stronger. I suspect I could machine an AL one, or make carbon fiber door, in an evening. Just need to find the time....

Re: Ford E350 a/c

This story has a happy ending. I took off the cabinets myself (about 1hr) and took the SMB to an independent local shop. They took out the rear a/c unit and replaced the blend door charging me 2 hrs labor plus parts. Total cost $300 plus 2 hrs of my time. The local Ford dealer quoted me $1,500 for removing cabinets and fixing the a/c.

Thank you for your advice, much appreciated.

Re: Ford E350 a/c

I just fixed mine too.

Turns out it wasn't my blend door. It was the vacuum actuator. It sprung a leak. I didn't wan to wait for parts, and I want to be able to run rear AC with front Defrost (It gets hot in the back with 14 people, no matter the outside temp). I ended up removing the actuator, blanking off the vacuum line, and installing a carburetor choke conversion kit. Works like a dream! Now now more heat when I'm at WOT pulling the trailer up hills, and I can have AC+Defrost now.

Since I did it myself, it only cost $9, but it did take a few hours.
