Ford fuel pump

I have a 2004 Ford E350 SMB with a V10 gas engine. The check engine light come on a few seconds after I felt a slight shudder, almost like starting to stall. It happened very quickly and everything returned to normal except the light stayed on.

The Ford dealer replaced the FRP fuel sensor and cleared the light, but it returned a few miles later. He now thinks it may be the fuel pump. He will replace the fuel filter and try again. I hate to keep spending the money since he is guessing at the results. What's my best option at this point?

Thanks

Re: Ford fuel pump

Are you saying this happened once and only once? Or does it happen every once in awhile?

In either case, if it doesn't happen predictably, it will be difficult to troubleshoot. Intermittent problems can defy troubleshooting. The best you can do is either:

- Try and make the problem repeatable. Find conditions where it will always happen. Then troubleshooting becomes easier.

- Make a hypothesis as to the problem and possible causes. Repair or replace the possible causes until the problem goes away.

Not fun. And maybe not desirable, but you may have no other choice.

Re: Ford fuel pump

Go to a shop that guarantees their diagnosis. You may pay more for the initial diagnostics, but at least you won't be paying Ford to throw parts at it.

There's other items that can cause that, like a dirty Idle Air Control valve.
