frozen diesel

For those who are driving their van in freezing temperatures, do you have a cocktail or additives that you use to prevent the diesel to solidify?
Thanks for your input.
Andrew

Re: frozen diesel

Andrew - It is my understanding that fuel in the US in blended to meet local conditions. I don't have first hand knowledge of this because I make every effort to avoid anyplace that gets that cold. I haven't seen diesel solidify since the winter of 1967 in Korea.

Re: frozen diesel

I use Power Service Diesel Fuel Additive. It has some anti-gelling additives. Costs about $5-7 for enough to treat 40 gallons. Pretty common in the big rig world as you'll find it at every truckstop. Plenty of below zero mornings so far this winter....no gelling problems yet.

If you're worried about fuel gelling, don't forget to check your coolant mix too. I had some coolant freeze in a small diameter line feeding my webasto coolant pre-heater on a -20F morning. Didn't freeze in the block thankfully.

Re: frozen diesel

Thanks for the feedback.
In Europe we had cold coming down from Siberia and my diesel started to freeze at 0°F.
It is warmer now but will know next time how to handle it better.
