Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

A question on the "non iPad" tunes: I have a Scangauge that I like to keep plugged into the OBD II port that's under the steering wheel. If I get a non-iPad tune that uses the OBD II port, is it something that I just plug in, set the tune, and then un-plug? In other words, can I then use my Scangauge when driving like I normally do? Or does the tune "use up" the OBD II port so I cannot use my Scangauge?

Side note on Transmission fluid temperature: That's the main reason I bought my Scangauge, and it does display TFT on my 5.4 Ford engine (I had to look up some code information on SG's site and put it in manually, but for some other engines it will be there from the get-go).

Side note on water temp: My 5.4 van normally runs at around 200º to 207º as well. Even when I was chugging up Homestake Pass with a boat in tow, it didn't budge above 207º - it just doesn't seem to vary much (which I take as a good sign).

Viva, looks like you can tune, remove and install your.

Spent 45 minutes this am trying to connect the IPad to the tuner without luck. The tune is still there but not able to connect anymore or change tunes if wanted.

Hopefully a chat with 5 Star on Monday will correct the issue but I have a feeling the IPad version will be going back.

I assume this is the web site.

LOLOL! Yes, Jamie, my experience is that Mike will just pick right up, or at least call you right back. Heck, it may just be a one man business. I'm not sure.

Hmmm, if you guys keep buying tuners though after this post I started........hmmmmm, maybe he'll hook me up next time!

Yes, plug in whichever tuner you buy, tune it, unplug and replug in scanguage. Scanguage will pick right back up without any resetting.

My TFT on our 5.4 varies from 175 to 200ish. I've got a thread around somewhere on my experiences in Death Valley this summer where I hit 230. Wasn't happy, but tranny lived.

Brent, I'm sorry to hear it. I'd hope you can get it worked out as I gather you are a Mac guy. I am too, somewhat, and I'm wondering if there is an app you are using for the gauges etc. that you got from the App store? Or is this all software Mike sent you?

thanks

Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

I downloaded their app from the Apple store as directed in their directions. Looks like it's proprietary and created for this version of tuner.

The iPad won't connect to the tuner at all right now. Spent another hour going through their troubleshooting sheet without success.

Waiting for Monday….

got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

My 5 star arrived tonight. I'll get busy tuning this w-end. Haywood, can you confirm the iPad is looking to receive a Bluetooth signal? I detest Bluetooth for all the reasons you describe

Any MPG changes?

Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

Emailed Mike at 5 Star early am today about issues. He stated I should contact SCT. On hold for 25 minutes and then left message. No return call today. I'll give Mike a call again in the morning for a resolution.

To follow up on a tangent, for anyone interested:

I drove over a scale yesterday, although I wasn't towing the trailer. I posted the results in the "What does your van weigh?" thread. It's post #98, although I'm not sure how to link to it directly. This should go to the top of the page it is on:

Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

Update: Two messages over two days and one 25 minute on hold call with SCT and no response. Sent another couple emails to Mike at 5 Star about the lack of response and finally got a call late this afternoon from them. Mike seemed genuinly concerned about the lack of customer support from SCT and apologized for it. Like him already. A tech at SCT walked me through resetting the unit. Seems to be working with the IPAD now.

Not sure what the arrangements are with Mike and SCT but it seems like the IPAD connectivitiy and functionality are not his part?

Anyway, Mike stated he is sending me the Performance Tune tomorrow so looking forward to uploading and trying that out.
