Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

I've noticed a substantial difference in performance with the "PerfTow 87 Tune" I have loaded. In addition when I hit the Tow/Haul button it appears to shift and act different than it does without the tuner. I sounded like from Mike that is how they designed it but his response to my question was brief.

I will be testing everything out tomorrow while driving out to the river with the boat. Long grades with 110 temps.

Brent, spent a frustrating w-end just trying to get initial comm. Are these any errors you have found solution to?

Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

Loren, at one time or another I have had those errors but don't remember what I did to clear or make them work.

The system worked great yesterday for my trip yesterday from San Diego to the River near Yuma AZ. Towed my small fishing boat and the performance gain was significant in every way.

I tried the tow/haul button a few times but found the regular drive mode worked best for the mountains and load I was pulling.

It was 105-110 outside for most of the trip through the desert and in the high 90's while climbing out of San Diego. The gauge/monitor screen on the iPad is great. Big and very visible.

I hit the data logging feature when I left and have yet to check it.

Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

Sending my IPAD version of the 5 Star system back to exchange for another version of some kind. The tuner part works great but the connection to the iPad/phone is so hit an miss it's not worth having for my needs.

Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

X-Caliber tuner showed up today. Just uninstalled the IPad tuner version and Installed the new one.

It's a shame the IPad version was not reliable. The screen and info available to see was great compared to this new one.

Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

I'm not happy with the iPad version at all. Non functional I'm stuck in the hi-perform mode. But I averaged 14mpg at 70mph back/forth to Tucson. That nearly 15% improvement and the acceleration is better for passing.

Re: got 5-Star tuned from Mike today!

Been awhile since I messed with my tuner. Had a stereo installed awhile back and they clipped a wire to the OBDII connector.

Had it fixed today by Juan an auto electrical guru referred by BajaSportsMobile. He came by the house and while fixing the connection today he was reading all my codes off his laptop for a check engine light. P0191 Fuel Rail Pressure keep coming up. Been doing a little research on the code but leave that for another thread.

Once the connection was working again I decided to change the Tune out to the 91 Performance Tune and filled her up with 91 octane. I only had a short drive to test the difference from the 87 Oct Tune but it appeared to be substantial. I'll post more info on a longer drive in the next day or two.

Sounds like a guy whose number I would keep around! There was a guy I got to know on this forum (and others) who sold his v10 van but he had a 93 octane 5 Star Tune and always ran it. He said it was an absolute hot rod. Like sports car fast, but his van was basically empty as well. Hope you like it, I would love to get a 93 tune and see if it helped the 5.4 but not sure I would ever buy 35 gallons of 93 when I'm never in much of a hurry in the van.

Juan is one of the smartest guys I know and can fix anything. He works with me on a lot of projects at our shop and will be even more involved with some of the new projects we are working on. He does all of our electrical work, rebuilds and converts our transmissions for 4wd conversion and does our axle rebuilds and gear changes.

Glad he was able to get that fixed for you.

No Juan does it better.

Not to mentioned he went to Brent, instead of the other way around. I don't doubt that was a special circumstance, but impressive nonetheless.
