Groaning sound when climbing steep trails?

I haven't let this bother me, but I thought I'd throw it out there in case someone else has experienced this:

When slowly climbing rough 4x4 trails, the van sometimes starts making loud low growling moaning sounds, kind of like like a power steering pump that's being starved of fluid. The sound comes in bursts, oscillating with the van's bouncing. Sounds like it's coming from the engine or below.

It's always done this, since new.

Oh, and I'm going straight, not necessarily turning.

What kind of fuel are you using? Maybe you got a Tiger in your tank.

Geoff is this going the way you wanted

My van does that too. I asked my Ford guy who is a straight shooter with lots of experience. He said it's the fuel pump kicking into high gear, not dry or sucking air, as it sounds to me.
