Help fast! Tranny blew in salt lake in a trip

Can someone please point me to a place in salt lake that can get a transmission? I'm on a trip in Salt Lake City. I'd like to upgrade if possible, Allison? Any ideas, reputable shops would be much appreciated. Thanks.

What in the world did you do to "blow" a torque shift transmission?

BTW - I would not consider the Allison to be an upgrade. The TorqueShift is rated for more power than and total weight than the Allison 1000 you find in pickups.

As far as repairs.... I recommend a factory Ford reman for that. Its a complicated transmission, so getting one rebuilt would probably take a couple weeks, and will probably end up costing as much or more.

Re: Help fast! Tranny blew in salt lake in a trip

OKay, I was coasting down into the valley going 75 when I felt a "release" like I had shifted into neutral. I looked down and saw no speed or RPM reading. I pulled over and tapped the throttle once stopped and no movement. I shifted into all the gears including reverse and nothing happen, there is slight grinding noise when I put into park. Now, comes the odd part. My buddy came to tow me and after him towing me for a minute the speedomter started to read again, then stopped. I'm really hoping it's something simple. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Help fast! Tranny blew in salt lake in a trip

Okay, so I went out and tried it in 2wd and still noting, Now AGILE: I went out and put it in 4 low and heard some clanking but it went into all the gears, I switched to 4 hi and it all worked again, then back to 2 hi and it was all working again, but in every sequence things were "louder" than normal. Usually this thing shifts like butter and is very quiet. WHat transfer case does this use? It's an 07 e350 v10 (5r110), for shopping purposes what should I look for?

Did you check the fluid in your transfer case. There's a site tube, to check it, if you have the atlas transfer case. That is the one that sportsmobile uses.

Sounds like you shifted the transfer case into neutral.

x3

Sounds like the Transfer case. Worn linkage bushings are sometimes the only thing causing it to pop into neutral.

It an NV271 T-case BTW. Most any Ford or Dodge dealer, and any 4x4 shop, can work on those.

I've done this (more than once). Leads to a moment of panic, until I get it figured out. OP doesn't have an Atlas, but can happen to just about any manually shifted t/case.
