MJS3, thank you for sharing. I actually came across your blog or website a week ago. I am taking the SMB on a trip to the Midwest but I don't feel it will have any issues as there are no long steep grades and we will always be cruising at highway speeds. I will address these issues when I get back and plan to install the remote transmission cooler before the snow flies.

As always, thanks for the replies. I'll update the thread once I get back to town and take some action. We are loving The Beast so far. We've had some great quick getaways and some good workdays down by the river while using Starlink. Thank you all and thank you Elon for Starlink! Besides the van it's been one of the greatest purchases I've made.

Cheers!

If changing the coolant, flush & install a CAT-1 ELC coolant. The Ford gold is horrific. There are dozens of websites that document how to do it and a quality diesel shop should know how to flush the coolant.

Buy a quality tune for the van...PCM & FICM.

Slow down (65mph or less) when driving up a long grade... these vans are poorly configured from the factory and are aerodynamic as a brick.

Some other options - https://www.sportsmobileforum.com/forums/f9/6-0-exhaust-upgrade-30665.html#post314069

We just drove I-80 from Salt Lake to park city at 70mph on an 80-85 degree day and our Temps were 220 (eot) & 226 (ect), although we have significant cooling upgrades.

Turn off the a/c when driving uphill.

That should get ya started.
