High Performance Wires/Cap/Rotor

Curious what the opinions are on replacing OEM plugs, wires, dist and rotor with MSD high performance kit is.....this is on a 1996 e350 7.5L 460 gasser. No known engine issues just a tune-up. It's roughly $100 more and I understand that it makes a big improvement on some engines and little to no improvement on others. Any experience on this engine for such upgrade value? This 96' vehicle only has ~120k original miles.

We will see some improvement over stock but most of your improvement will be from any fresh parts.
Your era 460 is a victim of Ford struggling to meet ever increasing emission standards with an older design engine. The big girl is so detuned and choked, that unless your going to do a full motor of mods your not going to get much out of minor mods. Just my 2cents having owned 2 of those motors.

Upgraded wires are a good upgrade IMO. Maybe not from a performance standpoint, but they prevent annoying voltage leak when they age.

As LilNuts says… for better performance, it needs better breathing. The ignition system is not the constraint.

Ford Racing makes the upgraded wires. I gave you those but you probably lost them in the fire. Just get Motocraft for the parts for the rest. You already have an upgraded ignition coil, flowmaster muffler and K&N filter. Not sure more to do.

Garage
^^^ What he said.

I used to buy aftermarket wires until we started measuring resistance. 212k mile oem wires on the car we were messing with had less resistance and were closer in numbers than the NGK wires that were 1mm bigger, the msd wires that were 2mm bigger, and the wires that were 2.5mm bigger (can’t remember brand). All three brands were right out the box. Was an eye opener...

The K&N Filter went up in smoke with the wires and everything else right after cleaning it.
Missing the rear window shroud now too.
