How much to fix coolant leak ‘04 E350 6.0

hi all, just received an estimate to fix a coolant leak on my ‘04 E350 6.0L diesel.

this is what i received from shop:

Coolant leak: coming from the heater hose from the heater core to the engine. This repair can be estimated to be finished by Tuesday.

Small oil leak: at the valve cover gaskets, this issue would require him to degrease/power wash the motor to determine the exact source of the leak. If you would like this issue fixed as well the estimated time would be the end of next week depending on what is found.

I only received estimate for coolant leak because he needs to steam the engine to pinpoint oil leak. but before i even do that i want to see if i should give him my business.

price seems high to me but deisels are new to me:

for the coolant leak only:

Parts $355
Labor $562 - 4.5 hours at $125 am hour.

this is in las vegas. any input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, david

The parts prices seems crazy. Are they replacing the heater hose, or are they replacing the heater core?

Labor hours and prices don't surprise me.

Greetings urbanfood,

The price for parts are on par if that price is for both hose assemblies and they are Genuine Ford Motocraft. Just be diligent that the mecanic isn't charging you Motocraft prices and installing Doorman hose assemblies. Or worse there are universal adapters that will convert the snap to connect heater core pipe to a barb where any hose can be connected an ran. I wouldn't recommend this in the confines of an E350 engine room.

On the labor there is some digging to be done to get to the hoses but not a lot. Not sure if your '04 6.0L is the same as my '05 6.0L. There are some differences in the '03 through mid year '04 VS the rest of the 6.0L years. The per hour price will be what it is for your location.

Garage
Labor per hour seems in line for the area, my mechanic in Colorado is $110 my mechanic in Portland OR was $130.00 an hour Parts seems off, he’s replacing more than the hose for that price he needs to give you a parts list. Give him a call & have them itemize the parts for you.
