Re: Leaf Springs

I see that is a Fresno suspension company, another repair parts resource to keep track of! I know one person on this site was not happy with the San Diego based National Spring solution he had built down here. I'm sure that would be searchable.

Re: Leaf Springs

I got some good info from SMB west.
The shocks are the rancho brand and they have leaf springs replacement kits. Shocks and springs are half the cost of the deavers. Now the big question will be are the SMB springs good enough or do I spend the extra cash and go with the deavers?
Anyone else driving on the new and improved SMB set up? gordon seems to like how his van rides. How well do they work on the washboard roads? Has anyone been able to drive both for a good side by side comparison?
Thank you

Re: Leaf Springs

Did you ever give Chris at U-Joint Offroad a call? He may have some good information for you, or maybe he has a good deal on some springs for you???

Re: Leaf Springs

I will second the idea of calling Chris at U Joint. He is always willing to help.

At least a few guys on here have had Chris get custom made springs for their SMBs to replace the original ones.

For shocks I would recomend Bilstiens any series. They are much better than most for only a bit more money and they last.

Re: Leaf Springs

I did talk with Chris, all of his good stuff is more or less a custom application, involving a lot of cutting and welding. Maybe if I was closer.
Thank you for the lead.

Re: Leaf Springs

I believe UJoint sources his springs from Deaver.

He was explaining to me that all of his brackets and mounting locations are different than what SMB uses. So cutting and welding would be a must for any of his gear to work. If I go with the deaver springs I will be letting them do the install?
Im just waiting for some more input on the new springs and shocks that SMB uses before I make my choice.

Plug and play would be nice. How many leafs are in the newer SMB springs? Most folks going Deavers have 10 leaves in the front and 12 in the back. They are thinner than the standard spring pack and have wrap of some sort at the shackles.

Not sure of the leaf count on the new SMB springs just yet. I will have to ask about that. I would rather do a direct fit replacement if possible. However I just want to do it once. lol

Chris at UJoint sources his springs from Atlas Springs in SoCal. When I bought my UJoint kit, I ended up going with Deavers (also SoCal) and Chris was nice enough to work with Deaver to spec the front springs to fit his kit.
