Limping Along

I had a bunch of trouble with my A/C and after a new compressor all is well - sort of.

Right after that work, the wrench light on the dash comes on and the van goes into limp mode. All I have to do is pull over, shut off the engine, restart it and all is well again. Problem is, it comes back on when the engine is working pulling up a steep grade at highway speeds. All the stuff I monitor is fine. Engine, trans, oil temps and FICM voltage.

I have been getting the dreaded P0299 code so I will be getting into the turbo in the near future. Is that enough to trip limp? Anyone have any idea what triggers it??

Re: Limping Along

If you opt to get a new turbo, I recommend a new Garret turbo, not a rebuilt. The new turbo has the improved innards and a new, better actuator. And it is less money than a Ford re-manufactured unit.

That is where I got my new turbo from.

Re: Limping Along

Thanks for the info on the turbo guys. I've seen the video and will be getting the turbo if needed, but I was wondering if that is what is causing the limp mode. I've been getting the P0299 code for months now and I've put some HotShot in it to see what happens. The limp mode just started. The van runs fine and my MAP is the same as a friends when we" convoy" places.
Just wondering where it's coming from and why now.
