Mercon vs Mercon V for power steering?
Hi all - I'm slowly learning more about the van, and figured the best way to do that is do as much as possible of the maintenance work myself. Did the oil change - piece of cake (although, admittedly, I have done that myself before on other vehicles).
Checking fluid levels on everything that I can, it seems like the power steering fluid is just below the minimum cold-fill line. However, I'm not sure what to add to top it off - Mercon or Mercon V? My 2006 V8 Gasser E350 manual says use Mercon for the power steering. I couldn't find Mercon at Napa, only Mercon V, Mercon III, and Mercon SP, as well as generic ATF fluid and "Power Steering Fluid". I've also found conflicting statements about not mixing grades, but also that Mercon V is "backwards compatible" with Mercon. Can anyone shed any light for me?
BTW, the transmission uses Mercon V...
